The standard answer for subcontracts is AIA A401 — but combined with its companion documents it runs to roughly 66 pages, and AIA publishes no short-form subcontractor agreement at all. If you're a small builder hiring one- and two-person subs, they are not going to read 66 pages — which in practice means jobs run on a handshake, and the one time something goes sideways there's nothing in writing.
